During construction most sites run on tanker water or a borewell. The permanent water and sewer connection comes at the end — and depends on approvals made at the beginning.
The Process
- Apply online through HMWSSB with property and applicant details.
- Upload documents (below).
- Site inspection to check feasibility and the connection route.
- Pay charges for the connection and any road cutting.
- Work order and connection — the pipe is laid and the meter installed.
Typical Documents
| Document | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Identity proof | Applicant |
| Sale deed or property tax receipt | Ownership |
| Sanctioned building plan | Approved construction |
| Occupancy certificate | Commonly required; small individual buildings may be exempt |
Requirements change; check HMWSSB's current guidelines before applying.
Plan the House for the Connection
- Sump position near the road side makes the inlet short and simple.
- Sump size for a few days of use plus tanker top-ups.
- Overhead tank with a pump and float arrangement.
- Sewer line route and level planned with the drainage, so the house drain can reach the public sewer by gravity.
The Short Version
Get the building permission and, where required, the OC in order; apply to HMWSSB online with the documents; and design the sump and drainage so the connection is straightforward. Call 155313 for help.
