The kitchen is the room where Vastu and services meet most directly: its position decides where water comes in, where waste goes out, and where smoke and heat leave.
Commonly Followed Kitchen Vastu
| Element | Common guidance |
|---|---|
| Kitchen location | South-east; north-west as alternative |
| Stove | East side, cook facing east |
| Sink | North-east part of the kitchen, away from the stove |
| Refrigerator | South-west or west |
| Storage (heavy) | South or west walls |
| Windows | East, for morning light |
| Avoid | Kitchen in the north-east; stove directly opposite or next to the sink |
Planning Services Around It
| Service | Planning point |
|---|---|
| Water supply and drain | Sink position sets the drain route; keep stacks short |
| Gas line | Stove position on the east wall fixes the pipe route |
| Chimney and exhaust | Duct through an external wall near the stove |
| Electrical | Points for appliances along the counter |
| Ventilation | Window and exhaust for heat and smoke |
Stacking the kitchen with toilets above or beside it shortens drainage runs, which saves money — check that it also suits your Vastu plan.
Fitting Kitchen Vastu on Small Plots
On 150–200 sq yard plots, the south-east corner may be taken by the staircase, parking or a setback-driven layout. Common solutions are a north-west kitchen, or rotating the cooking platform so the cook still faces east. These are design decisions; make them before construction.
The Short Version
South-east kitchen, stove on the east wall, sink apart towards the north-east — and plan the plumbing, gas, chimney and windows to match before construction starts.
